What Is New Age?

Founder: Being an eclectic blend of many ancient and modern religions and philosophies, there is no single human founder.
Founding Date: Many attribute the rise of the current New Age Movement (NAM) to evolving occult movements, such as New Thought and Theosophy in the late 1800's, and the counter-culture movement of the 1960's. Its root forms, however, actually are expressed in Satan's temptation of man in Genesis 3, and in the beliefs of many pagan and eastern religions, thousands of years old.
Official Publications: Due to the lack of a central organization and the diversity of emphasis adhered to by the various New Age groups there are literally hundreds of publications. Some popular publications and journals are New Age Journal, Body Mind Spirit, Yoga Journal, Gnosis, East West, Noetic Sciences, and Omega.
Other Names: Higher Consciousness Movement, Occultism, Eastern Mysticism, Eastern Spirituality, Ancient or Perennial Wisdom, Age of Aquarius, Holistic Health Movement.
INTRODUCTION
The New Age Movement is both a religious and a social movement. In fact, Western culture is currently experiencing a phenomenal, spiritual, ideological, and sociological shift. It is a religious world-view that is alien and hostile to Christianity. (John 15:18,19 "If the world hates you, you know that it hated ME before it hated you. "If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.) It's a multi-focused, multi-faceted synthesis, in varying degrees, of the Far Eastern, mystical religions, mainly Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, and Western Occultism, adapted to and influenced by Western, materialistic culture. It sometimes appears in secularized forms.
It is comprised of hundreds of groups and individuals who have gained significant influence, affecting almost every area of the culture - sociology, psychology, medicine, the government, ecology, science, arts, education, the business community, the media, entertainment, sports, and even the church. ( IJohn 4:1-3, Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of GOD; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of GOD, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.) The movement expresses itself in widely divergent and various mutated forms, from the blatantly obvious to the subtle. It is expressed in organized religious forms such as Christian Science, Unity, and even forms of Witchcraft. Yet, it shows up in secular forms as well, in various human potential seminars, and much in between, i.e., transcendental meditation, some alternative holistic health practices, and certain curriculum in public (and private) schools.
The most central and commonly shared beliefs among New Agers are various combinations of gnosticism and occultism. Gnosticism is an ancient world-view stating that Divine essence is the only true or highest reality, and that the unconscious Self of man is actually this essence. It is through intuitional discovery, "visionary experience or initiation into secret doctrine" (not the plenary revelation of propositional truth in the Bible), that man becomes conscious of this true Self (Encyclopedia Brittanica, Vol. 10, 1968, p. 506; J.D. Douglas, ed., New Bible Dictionary, pp. 473-4).
Occultism is a "general designation for various theories, practices, and rituals based on esoteric knowledge, especially alleged knowledge about the world of spirits and unknown forces of the universe" (Encyclopedia Brittanica, Vol. 7, p. 469).
The term "New Age" is an informal term derived from astrology, which indicates that this earth, if not the cosmos, is on the verge of an evolutionary transition from the Picean Age (rationality) to the Aquarian Age of spirituality, bliss, and harmony of all things. Even though it is undergoing a significant revival, the "New Age" is hardly new. In fact, it is very old.
Ephesians 5:6-11 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of GOD comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them. For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness but rather expose them.

What About The Tithe

If you are giving by freewill, this tithing resource is written in support of your view of tithe and offerings; but if you read this only gaining support for the tithe debate, then you will have missed greater intentions that the Spirit of God laid out here. If you tithe, of course, this resource is not written in total support of your tithing view, but if you view this as an attempt to excuse monetary selfishness and biblical disobedience, then you will have missed the greater intentions of giving outlined in this resource. The challenge for all is to gain knowledge and experience of the greater call and higher guilt led by the Holy Spirit. Whether you give beyond the tithe with limitless offerings, or you give as freewill, you already exercise the Tool used to define "Spirit-led giving".
First let's outline 4 general types of giving:
1. Cheerful tithe- This follows the paths outlined in the Old Testament Covenant(OTC) to instruct them in their giving while cheerfully and willingly submitting themselves to that authority.
2. Cheerful Spirit-led- This follows the paths outlined in the New Testament Covenant(NTC) to instruct them in their giving and cheerfully and willingly submit themselves to that authority.
3. Un-cheerful tithe- This believes tithing is right, but generally either struggle to or don't give in accordance to the paths of giving outlined in the OTC.
4. Un-cheerful Spirit-led- This believes free-will is right, but generally either struggle to or don't give in accordance to the paths of giving outlined in the New Testament Covenant.
These categories of givers could be broken down into smaller, specific groups, if the time was taken, but these four points are trying to show the tithe and offering similarities more than the differences. Both cheerful and un-cheerful are determined based on the decision of subordinating to the presupposed authority. Both ways recognize the authority in his life and both choose to be subordinates or not. Because a tithe giver and spirit-led giver can both experience joy and sorrow of giving, we cannot determine our theology based on stories of provision and blessing from either side of the tithe issue. Generations of tale telling can be told on how God blessed and provided for either side, based on his form of giving.
The ultimate question is, which authority should we follow, and why? Church tithe and offerings expose the false teachings that have been left unchallenged for centuries. One of the main reasons why tithing has been unchallenged for so long, is our lack of understanding the Old and New Testament's purpose towards each other. Here is a list to help us lay a foundation for Spirit-led giving and tithing in order to understand the authority of God’s covenants.
1. The New Testament Covenant has a higher authority than the Old Testament covenant.
2. The New Testament will endorse, continue, confirm, modify, or abolish any form of Old Testament law or principle. For example, the New Testament frees us from food regulations declared in the Old Testament Covenant, and confirms our responsibility towards the ministers at the altar.
3. In order for a law in the Word of God to be considered an eternal principle, it must duplicate an exact character trait of God. For instance circumcision is not an eternal law, and cannot even be performed outside of an earthly body; but spiritual circumcision is an attribute of God, and its truth lives eternally.
These points are not necessarily prerequisites for understanding the tithe issue; but they help point out a clearer picture of discerning what Old Testament Covenants have been abolished, while at the same time understanding how all scripture is profitable.
Even with these foundations laid, I bow down to God’s word as the ultimate authority about tithe and offerings.

What about Yoga?
Can yogic practices be integrated with the Christian faith?
"Oh, East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet . . ." Rudyard Kipling's words accent the difference between eastern and western spirituality, between Hinduism and Christianity. But the two, "the twain" as it were, are now meeting via yogic practices being promoted in various places of worship and activities of spirituality. Take, for example, one Jewish synagogue. The weekly Shabbat services of Congregation Beth-El Zedek have included such activities as "Torah Yoga," which asks congregants to "stretch and take deep breaths" as the Torah is read, or when as worshippers enter the synagogue, they are "welcomed by Torah meditations set to drums and chanting."[1] But Jews are not alone in adopting yogic postures and practices.

Psychology
Psychology wants to destroy all AUTHORITY. "Judge not" means that we can’t judge the inner man, it does not mean we cannot judge the outer actions. Hate sin and love the sinner. But the Psycho-nut refrains from judging the outer actions and instead judges the inner motives. Psychology destroys authority because it places all ethics and morals into the hands of the individual and preaches against outside pressures. Christ said all authority comes from God. Though out Scripture he created the structure of society which requires a chain of command for peace and harmony. He gave laws because human nature is basically bad. Everything we do that is civilized is contrary to our nature: eating, clothes, kindness, giving, forgiving. However the psycho-nut wants us to be natural. To be natural is to eat like the animals, where ever and when ever we want to, and to take off our clothes whenever we want to. Even to kill whenever we want to. Everything that is civilized is taught by our elders, parents, God, etc. The Psycho-nut wants us to relate to our children. He wants total equality between husband and wife and children. Under the banners of equality and freedom we are destroying God's societies. Equality - no authority! Freedom from sin!

False Prophets
Jeremiah the weeping prophet wrote much about false prophets. 5:31 points to the last days as much as throughout history when he wrote: "The prophets prophesy lies, The priests rule by their own authority, And my people love it this way. But what will you do in the end?" This puts the judgment not only on lying prophets but the ones that flock after them. A false prophet that speaks upon his own authority appeals to the fools and it is tragic that there are so many fools for the prophets to lie to. They speak what the people want to hear and the majority of the church flock to them.
